Once again NYAROC member George Pezold opens his beautiful home to us and hosts a fantastic summer BBQ and allows to drool over his stunning TZ.
A collection of photos from photos taken at Casa Gesualdo. We had a good time with great company, food & a roaring fireplace
The following photos and text was provided by NYAROC member Griffith G de Noyelles jr.: These photos are from Team Shoestring which was founded one morning at Lime Rock by me, Joe LoRe and John Torello, with "steep" membership requirements: have a GTV6, get it on a race track (HPDE/track days would do) The founders were fairly serious time trialers, and most important, have not nearly enough budget for the car - hence the name. Although we did award an honorary membership to David Rivkin, he did race his GTA after all, so this was consistent with the founding philosophy or actually doing something with our cars.
In celebration of the 100th birthday of the formation of ALFA, the yearly Watkins Glen Vintage Grand Prix choose to mark this special occasion by making Alfa Romeo the Featured Marque for the 2010 event held in Watkins Glen New York on September 9th and 10th. This great town was host to one of the worlds first street races back in the 1920s and was also the location of some of the best Formula One races at it's grand prix track just outside of the down town. As part of the festivities many of the participants were able to drive not only the fantastic racing circuit but were also permitted to drive three parade laps on the original street circuit through downtown Watkins Glen with cheering crowds! A worthwhile event to attend even if your favorite car is not a featured marque
For the last 44 years in June, the Greater New York Region of the Antique Automobile Club of America has held one of the most prestigious Auto Show-Concourse d'Elegance in the Northeast at Old Westbury Gardens on Long Island. This year due to the leadership of NYAROC President Dr. Dino Pappous, Board Member Vic Cerami and member of both clubs, Stuart Light, Alfa Romeo was chosen as the featured marque for 2010 in honor of our storied marques 100th birthday. Old Westbury Gardens was the home of the Phipps family ( US Steel ) and consists of 160 acres of manicured parkland with a mansion built in the manner of a Charles II stately home. Completed in 1906, Old Westbury Gardens is located on the historic North Shore of Long Island, associated with the Gilded Age of the Robber Barons and the Society types portrayed in The Great Gatsby. It is now a public park trust. Every Sunday members of NYAROC meet for breakfast at a local Diner. That the Diner was only two miles from the Show site was a happy coincidence. Lining up in the order of display as determined by Stu Light, Sedans, GTV6s, Spiders and Sprints, 26 Alfas dominated the local roads as we made our way through the imposing wrought iron, gilded gates to the display area. 23 more Alfisti arrived and were parked according to type in the featured marque area. Hot, clear weather, people in period dress, a beautiful setting and relaxed Alfisti. A great way to spend a Sunday -- David Rivkin NYAROC
Our first event of 2010 was held on January 9th and was a big hit. Thanks to Lynn and George Pezold for allowing us to gather at your beautiful home.
Long ago when we were younger and our cars were new. - An assortment of photos contributed by Stuart Light. A visual journey into the past of NYAROC/LIAROC - The parties, the cars, the members no longer with us.
The NYAROC annual Awards Dinner and 25th Anniversary event was held on November 14, 2009 at the historic George Washington Manor in Roslyn, Long Island. On this special evening we were fortunate to have both co-founders of our chapter in attendance. Co-founder and first President Tom Muccino (LIAROC) flew in from Arizona and was presented a Founders award along with our other co-founder and current Treasurer George Pezold. Lou Grasso, a long-serving Director, was presented with an outstanding handmade Alfa model which was an artistic rendition of his beloved spider. Lou also was inducted into the "Order of the Serpent" in recognition of his many contributions to our club.
Our very successful evening was the result of the considerable efforts of the event group which was headed by Dino Pappous. Dino also performed, along with our President George Linton, the very entertaining MC duties. A special thank you to past President Harry Krause for creating and presenting the photographic gift for Tom Muccino.
This was a truly wonderful evening. We remembered our recently departed members, past President Enzo Rella and Director Donald Tsakis. We honored our club Presidents and, incredibly, eight were in attendance: Tom Muccino, Harry Krause, Briggs Cunningham, Frank Gesualdo, Frank Sapienza, Harry Nicolaides, George Linton and Vic Cerami. It was great to see the long-time members attending including current Club Secretary John and Cornelia Catera, Joel and Cammy Belser, Irv and Maxine Wolberg, Mike and Linda Bange, Alan Elton, Frank Como, Mike Intintoli, and Director David Rivkin and Susan.
