Memorial

On January 20, 2023, we tragically lost Fred Frey, our webmaster, Alfisti brother and our good friend. It is a very big loss that comes with unending thoughts and memories of past great times together.

Our friend was a lover of beautiful things and dedicated to Italian cars, especially Alfa Romeos. He was

instrumental in the development of our great NYAROC website and became our webmaster, a position he held until his passing.

In 2009, prior to Alfa's official return to the U.S., Fred was part of a NYAROC group that traveled to Italy

and met with Alfa's President. The group was there to plan the Centennial celebration but took this opportunity to appeal for Alfa's return to the USA. Several meetings were held with the numerous international Alfa clubs present to plan Alfa's Centennial, which would be held the following year in Milan. This was a grand celebration which Fred also attended, driving his 1600 Zagato.

Many trips to Europe followed and most included Italy, Holland, England and France. He really loved to

travel, especially if it involved substantial driving. He kept Alfa Romeos in Connecticut, Key Largo and the

Netherlands, so wherever he was, he always had an Alfa to enjoy.

When Fred lived in Hampton Bays, he hosted a legendary NYAROC pool party and barbecue that lasted way into the night. It was a fun event with a number of guests reluctant to leave. And one guest took it a little too far. Fred reported that after he cleaned up and was heading to bed, he heard water running and found a disoriented guest still in the downstairs bathroom!

He was a well-known animal lover, up daily at 5 a.m. for a long walk with his dog Nico, who also traveled everywhere with Fred.

One of the last club events Fred attended was our 16th Annual Robert D. Cess Concorso d’Eleganza at Stony Brook University in September 2022. Fred’s beautiful FIAT Dino Spider won The People’s Choice Award.

Fred was a true Alfisti, serving previously as an AROC director and currently as club webmaster for both the New York and Connecticut AROC chapters. He spent a good number of the summer months enjoying Connecticut with his partner Beverly. He said it was convenient to attend the many car and Alfa club events in the tri-state area.

He was an intelligent and kind individual who was always there to help anyone, anytime. You could not find a better friend or person.
